Entertainment City
The Amusement Park is situated in the
Doha area, 20 kilometers to the north of the capital. It
covers an area of one million square meters and was
officially opened on 14 March, 1984. It is a small
version of American Disneyland, but it is
distinguished by its Arab and international qualities.
In addition to its recreational and touristic
facilities, it assumes an important cultural role
through its various sections with their universal
dimensions.
Run by KTEC and located 20 km from
Kuwait City near Doha on the north side of Kuwait Bay,
the complex provides a complete range of amusements
based on themes from 'the Arab World the
International World' and the 'Future World' It is
considered one of the best amusement parks in the world.
One can see there the French Eiffel
Tower, the Italian Learning Tower of Pisa, Dutch
windmills, the sea journey of Sinbad through a
dark cave illuminated to show the marvelous sites
visited, sailing ships in the Arab Gulf, in addition t o
other natural and historical landmarks in Africa, the
East and the West. All these scenes with their
scientific and cultural significance are imprinted on
the minds of youngsters and adults who have never seen
them in their countries of origin.
The Green Island
The Green Island is located off the
waterfront, which spans 21 kilometers of coastline from
Al- Shiwaikh area to Ras Alard. The Island has an
area of 785 thousand square meters; its diameter is 3140
meters and it is linked to land by a passageway 134
meters long. It was inaugurated on 22 February
1988.
This artificial island was formed by
extending the main land and surrounding it with natural
rocks imported from Al-Fujairah Emirate; its sides were
fortified with concrete cubes. Sand for its beaches was
brought from afar.
The island receives thousand of visitors especially on
weekend, religious and national holidays and during the
summer.At its eastern side, there is a swimming pool with
inconstant water according to tide and ebb, its depth
varies between 2.5 and 3 meters. There is a restaurant
on either side of the island, as well as a well-equipped
service centre.
Key features of the Green Island are many; its
amphitheater, which accommodates 700 persons, is used
for conducting concerts and theatrical celebrations. Its
touristic tower is 35 meters high and is provided with a
water tank at its top. Its Kid's Castle includes many
rooms, corridors and channels and small waterfalls for
children's fun. There is an ascending spiral stairway
for walking enthusiasts. 50,000 coloured shrubs and
seedlings which are adaptable to Kuwait's environment
were planted on the Island.
